The Chicken Personalities
Here they are, our chickens.

Brown, striped chicken. Girl 1. She is a braveheart: the first day she came to our life she scared our cats away by spreading her wings and pretending to be a huge nasty chicken. She is small and cute, though - at least for now.

The punk spirited chicken. Very cautious, but sociable. Very missy. Wants to be petted and talked to. Likes to pick up the smaller ones.

We live in Oakland and have a flock of 10 chickens and 9 chicks are currently in the brooder. All of our girls have names, thanks to my 2 children. Since you live in the Mission, why not name yours after famous Latinas? My suggestions:
Rita (as in Moreno) for the brown hen (possibly a golden laced wyandotte)
Dolores (as in Huerta) for what looks like a Buff Rock
Isabel ( as in Allende) for the other Buff Rock
I thought the white chicken was named Elvira? I like that name for her, Elvira the City Chicken.
today I looked out my bedroom window into a tall tree above my sacramento property…A wild turkey up in a tree..with an arrow in his side…frightened…called my neighbor,a federal wildlife biologist who rescues abused horses…someone saw some kids with davey crockett hats and bows and arrows….reading your blog made me so happy..how about esmeralda for the punk chicken?
Jim says Chiquita for #3. I say Bananaface for #2. Or just banana for short. How about Xena, warrior princess for the braveheart?
Thanks folks! Awesome names. Most likely, we’ll set up a voting system about the suggestions. Stay tuned.
