Suggest Names For the Chicks!

Ann making friends with one of the chicks.

The chickens, all four of them, have become integral part of our family. Also, they have become great entertainment for the whole neighborhood: always when I glance out of the window to see how the chickens are doing, I see somebody on their balcony looking at the chickens.

We call them only “Girls”. We really need to name them properly; otherwise, they might get an identity crisis as a result of treating them as a group, as a mass.

We want to have your contributions to the process: please, suggest names for our chickens!

Post your suggestions by replying to this post with the form that you’ll find at the bottom of the page. We will gather suggestions for a couple of weeks, and then, from the suggestions, people can vote for their favorite names. The winner names will be chosen – unless the names are super awkward.

In this link you’ll find the profiles of the chickens, with pictures that capture their personalities.

For your inspiration: Here are some names that have already been suggested, by a reader of this blog.

Amelia. Amelia Earhart was a famous aviator.
Thelma and Louise. We all know who they are and they sure did fly.

Hillary Clinton. She’s a bit of a high flyer.(Editor’s note: Suggestion made by a New Zealander, she is not aiming to be offensive)

Martha. As in Stewart. She was kept in the coop for a wee while wasnt she. Poor Martha!!!!!!

HennyPenny. From the story book “Chicken Little” and…

Gertrude. Just a cool chicken name.

What is your suggestion? Remember: we have four chickens, and not a single name – so the more names you’ll suggest, the happier we are! And, if you want to, you can tell us which name goes for which chicken; for example, Lollipop for the white punk chicken, HennyPenny for one of the yellow ones, etc.

I think the name should be one that is great, Like Myrtle Sylvia,
she is my great aunt and is a trooper. She is 92, still lives in her own home and does all of her own housework, does not like someone else cleaning her house, she does a better job. She still drives and has never been in an accident. She lives in Fargo North Dakota, gotta be tough to survive there, (last christmas it was 49 degrees below 0.She is fisty and tiny, only 4′10 and sits on a large cushion to drive with block on the gas and brakes. I only hope I can be a alert and with it at her age.
Good name for a little chicken.
    Marie

It’s been about 20 years since I’ve had chickens.

I’m buying a home with a decent size yards (and no homeowner’s association) and will finally have chickens again.

I was thinking that since Elvira already has a name, that the other three chickens could be:

    “Faith, Hope and Charity”

Or if you wanted something a bit more greek mythology:

“Aoide, Melete and Mneme” for the three muses

or for something a bit edgier…

“Clotho, Lachesis and Athropos” for the three fates

I’d call the yellows, Patty and Cathy Lane, ‘cos…
They’re cousins, identical cousins all the way…
and you’ll find they laugh alike, they walk alike, at times they even talk alike.
You can lose your mind … when cousins are two of a kind!

For the fluffy white one, how about Cotton?? I love that name! Looks very sweet.

Also, I think it’s is absolutely amazing that you adopted that chicken. She is very lucky to have such a loving home. It’s people like you that make the world a much better place to live. Thank you! God bless!

You have the perfect number of chickens to name them after the 4 Golden Girls – Dorothy, Rose, Sophia, and Blanche!

Thanks, all, awesome suggestions. One person suggested April, May, June for the three little ones.

My uncle suggested Negative for the punk chicken, because she looks so white in the picture, but the background is black. Negative, like a film negative, related to photography.

How about the name Miss Prissy or Ms Prissy, if you prefer. She was the little, white chicken wearing the blue sun bonnet and granny glasses from Looney Tunes. Miss Prissy was always giving Foghorn Leghorn a hard time.

When I was a little girl, we had chickens named Erma and Myra. They were sisters. No significance, we just thought they were good chicken names.
